“In an era where artificial intelligence permeates every facet of our lives — from healthcare to finance, and from social media to transportation — it’s imperative that our K-12 educational organizations recognize and embrace the importance of AI literacy,” said Montgomery County Educational Service Center Director of Instructional Services Candice Sears. “Understanding AI, its capabilities, its limitations, and its ethical implications is no longer an elective; it’s a fundamental literacy, akin to reading, writing, and mathematics. By integrating AI literacy into our education systems, we empower the next generation not just to navigate but to shape a future where technology and humanity coalesce.”
Sears is passionate about AI literacy.
“It’s about preparing students not only to be consumers of technology but also innovators, policymakers, and critical thinkers who can steer AI development towards enhancing societal welfare,” Sears said.
