Four people were injured Wednesday morning in a fiery five-vehicle crash that temporarily closed the intersection of East Third and South Keowee streets in Dayton.

At 7:20 a.m., a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling on East Third Street and failed to stop at the red light at South Keowee Street, according to a crash report filed by Dayton police.

The pickup hit a 2022 Honda Odyssey heading north on Keowee Street. The Ford continued into the intersection and hit a U.S. Postal Service truck heading south on Keowee Street. The pickup truck and postal vehicle collided with a 2015 Honda Accord and a 2013 Ford Escape that were stopped on East Third Street, according to the crash report.

The pickup truck then caught fire.

Medics took four people to Miami Valley Hospital. Dayton police Maj. Jason Hall said their injuries are not life-threatening.

“Fortunately I’m being told everyone involved will be OK,” he said.

The driver of the pickup truck had suspected serious injuries and the drivers of the USPS truck, Honda Accord and Ford Escape suffered suspected minor injuries, according to the crash report.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey did not report any injuries.

Due to the scope of the crash, the Dayton Police Department Traffic Services Unit was called to investigate.

“The safety of the public is priority number one for us,” Hall said. “Unfortunately people were injured, but we’re very grateful everyone is going to be OK.”

The crash temporarily closed the intersection, which reopened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
