Gem City Vet Clinic to open in Trotwood

Low-cost wellness services to be offered to help keep pets healthy.

Furry patients will soon have access to low-cost veterinary services thanks to the passion of Gem City Kitties.

The nonprofit partner of the Gem City Catfé, Gem City Kitties has announced Aug. 28 as the opening date for the Gem City Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Lindsey Vansandt from the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is heading the clinic that will be located at 5941 Wolf Creek Pike in Trotwood.

“When I heard about what Gem City Kitties was hoping to accomplish with their veterinary clinic, I was happy to join them in their mission,” Vansandt said. “I look forward to meeting pet owners in this community and helping keep Dayton pets happy and healthy.”

To start, the clinic will offer low-cost wellness services one weekend per month, then later expand to include more hours, services and programs. The 2021

weekend schedule is tentativel­y Aug. 28 and 29, Sept. 11 or Sept. 18 (TBD), Oct. 2 and 3, Nov. 6 and 7, and Dec. 4, 5 and 18.

ALDI is one of the largest food retailers in the U.S. It has several locations in the area, including Dayton, Beavercree­k, Centervill­e, Englewood, Huber Heights, Miamisburg and Xenia.

The reopening is part of an ongoing initiative to remodel and expand existing stores nationwide, according to ALDI. The business has more than 2,000 stores in 37 states.

That number of sites ranks it third behind Walmart and Kroger, and the company plans to top 2,500 stores by 2022, according to foodindust­ry.com.

That same website has ALDI is ranked ninth in U.S. sales with an estimated $15 billion. Walmart, Kroger and Costco, respective­ly, top the list.

ALDI reopened the Centervill­e store in September 2020 after a similar renovation, Dayton Daily News records show.

The remodeled Kettering store will provide an improved layout and refrigerat­ion to accommodat­e an expanded fresh and convenient food selection, the company said.

It will also feature open ceilings and natural lighting, and it is built with environmen­tally friendly materials, according to ALDI.

The Kettering store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Tuesday and Thursday, its hours will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow vulnerable shopping hours between 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., according to the company.
