Dixie High School senior Drew Huffmanhas been a standout varsity basketball player for several years. Until this year, he dedicated the fall athletic season to preparing for basketball. In his final year of high school, Drew added his athleticism to the cross country team, and his contribution is paying dividends in the team standings.

The cross country team has achieved a number of top 5 finishes this season thanks to several strong runners on the team. The addition of a fifth high finisher has enabled the team to score the points needed to finish high in the team rankings. By expanding his athletic horizons, even though he had not participated in cross country before, Drewhas helped to make 2020 a more successful teamcross country season for Dixie.

NewLebanonstudentsreturned to school onAugust 31 with a new schedule that emphasizes sanitizing, maskwearing and social distancing. The precautions taken to bring students back to school while limiting the potential for spreading infection created a much different learning environment than students remembered from last March.

As students and staff adjusted to in-person school two days a week and remote instruction on the other three days, parents and students had varied reactions to the new environment. While some appreciated the precautions in place, others lamented the loss of many aspects of typical school days.

One Dixie High School senior made the day of high school staff members when he answered a class question about what he is grateful for, “I am grateful to be back at school, I am grateful to have my senior season in football, I am grateful for all my teachers in helping me with the new school format.”

New Lebanon staff members are hopeful that the return to school, though different, is having the same impact onmany students as they return to school.
