‘Blizzard Blood Drive’
Community Blood Center will host a “Blizzard Blood Drive” Friday, July 24, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Dayton CBC Donation Center, 349 S. Main St. Everyone who registers to donate will receive two free Dairy Queen Blizzard coupons and the “Time to Save a Life” t-shirt.
Donors must make an appointment and wear a face mask. Schedule your donation at www.DonorTime.com or call 937-461-3220.
Donors helped improve the blood supply after it fell to critically low levels in early July. Nearly 200 donors supported the Friday, July 17 “Kings Island Day Blood Drive” at the Dayton CBC.
But COVID-19 concerns continue to suppress normal blood collections and hospital usage remains high. This past weekend alone, nearly 100 units of blood products went to the treatment of gunshot wound victims at three area hospitals.
CBC is encouraging support for the Friday, July 24 “Blizzard
Blood Drive” to help maintain the blood supply through another difficult summer weekend. There are fewer mobile blood drives on Friday and Saturday and no collections on Sunday.
CBC continues to limit capacity at blood drives to maintain social distancing and other COVID-19 safeguards. Many businesses with employees working from home have suspended their bloods drives. Many community blood drives have moved to new locations, leading to missed appointments.
CBC is seeking more people to become first-time donors and is asking all to join the World Blood Donor Day pledge, “Make Two Appointments to Donate and Keep Them.”
Blood donation requirements: Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds (you may have to weigh more, depending on your height), and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@ cbccts.org. Make an appointment at www.DonorTime.com or call 937-461-3220.
