A Dayton woman called 911 twice Tuesday night, saying first that her former boyfriend was breaking into her house and about 10 minutes later requesting paramedics after she said she shot the man.

Darron Orr, 53, died after being shot at the house in the 200 block of Fairview Avenue.

Dayton crews were dispatched around 11 p.m. Tuesday. Dayton Police Lt. Gregg Gaby said crews arrived to find “someone had kicked in the door.”

Gaby said the woman, who has not been named, has been cooperative with the investigation and has not been arrested.

“The person right now is being investigated on what happened, the entire situation,” Gaby said. “She’s been volunteering and cooperative during this entire process.”

According to 911 audio, the woman first asked the dispatcher to send police to her Fairview home.

“He’s not supposed to be over here, and he’s banging on my door,” she said to the dispatcher. “I need somebody over here right now.”

When asked by the dispatcher why Orr wasn’t supposed to be over there, the woman replied, “Because he’s drunk.”

Gaby said dispatchers may not have had enough information to go on during the first call.

“When people are under stress, they tend to just give out the address and sometimes not the important details,” Gaby said.

The second time she called for assistance, about 10 minutes later, she asked for an ambulance.

“Somebody’s been shot,” she said. “I need someone down here.”

The caller stated she did not know where Orr had been shot.

In addition to calls made by the resident, an alarm company also contacted emergency dispatchers and asked for police to be sent to the Fairview Avenue home.
