— The presidential CINCINNATI campaign for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will wind its way through Cincinnati next month, as the Democratic candidate plans to hold a fundraiser and event Sept. 10 in the city.

Clinton will campaign in Cincinnati “in an effort to continue building for primary states beyond the early four,” said Tyrone Gayle, a regional communications aide for the Clinton campaign, in a statement.

“During her visit, she’ll lay out the case of her campaign and ask people to get directly involved,” he said. Clinton will also “share her vision for an economy that helps everyday Ohioans get ahead and stay ahead.”

More specific details about the visit, including location and time, will be released at a later date, according to Gayle.

As Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont, continues to battle Clinton in the polls, gaining traction in a battleground state like Ohio is critical for the former First Lady.

Clinton defeated President Barack Obama in the Buckeye state Democratic primary in 2008, after garnering 54 percent of the vote, but is currently behind in the polls in New Hampshire, trailing Sanders 44 percent to 37 percent, according to a Franklin Pierce-Boston Herald survey.

Recent polling shows that Clinton has a commanding lead over the rest of the field that includes former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.

Vice President Joe Biden is still considering whether or not to join the race.

Ohio’s Democratic presidential primary is scheduled for March 15.
