100 Years Ago – 1922:

An elaborate program has been arranged by the clergy, nuns, parishione­rs and children of the St. Anthony of Padua Church in commemorat­ion of the feast of St. Anthony. The parochial school building, Third and Parker streets, Chester, will be open to the public today from 3 o’clock until 9 o’clock. The work of the student sin the various grades will be exhibited. From 7 until 11 o’clock in the evening, a band will be in attendance on the school grounds. Solemn High Mass will be celebrated in the church tomorrow at 10:30 o’clock. Father Evans, recently ordained and newly appointed assistant to Father Garritano, will take part.

75 Years Ago – 1947:

A Philadelph­ia boy confessed to five county burglaries yesterday afternoon after questionin­g by local and state police. The 13-year-old boy was arrested after he shot himself through the foot with a stolen gun, in the Bowling Green trolley station, Sunday night. He was taken to the Media Hospital for treatment, and was questioned by there by Media, Nether Providence, and State Police.

50 Years Ago – 1972:

A Trainer councilman, apparently enraged because someone hit his dog with a stick, was arrested Sunday after he allegedly fired two shots into a borough home. Mayor Henry Johnson said the 52-yearold councilman, who is serving his second term, is charged with dischargin­g firearms, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and firing firearms within the borough.

25 Years Ago – 1997:

Eddystone Borough Council received some good news from Delaware County Council. The county has approved $300,000 in federal Community Developmen­t Block Grant funds for a new community center to be built on Eighth Street, site of the old borough

sewer disposal plant.

10 Years Ago – 2012:

While declining membership resulted in a decision to close following Sunday’s worship service, the parishione­rs of Old Union Methodist Church in Rose Valley realize the church is not the building. They will be moving with their pastor, the Rev. Lori Wagner, to her new call at Prospect United Methodist Church in Prospect Park. One of the first two churches chartered in Delaware County, Old Union was founded in 1803 when a circuit rider from Arch Street United Methodist Church joined three or four people under a local tree.
