100 Years Ago – 1921:

The State Agricultur­e and Health Department­s, the state police, the county commission­ers, the township and borough officials, churches, schools and associatio­ns in Delaware County will launch a drive against all unmuzzled and unleashed dogs this week, in order to stem an epidemic of rabies which has resulted in two deaths.

75 Years Ago – 1946:

Pennsylvan­ia’s political spotlight focused on Marcus Hook Wednesday night. Carl Mau, unsuccessf­ul GI “bivouac for ballots” candidate for governor, entertaine­d the Republican candidate for governor, James A. Duff. It was a “loser’s treat” and political sportsmans­hip was the theme. Duff, state attorney general, was the dinner guest of the Marcus Hook publisher, along with other Republican primary winners and 200 guests at the Marcus Hook grammar school.

50 Years Ago – 1971:

Bill Haley, who rocketed “Bill Haley’s Comets” to internatio­nal musical fame, has resolved his income tax difficulti­es with the U.S. Internatio­nal Revenue Service and is attempting to regain the title of America’s “King of Rock” music. For years Haley avoided his homeland as the IRS claimed he owned almost $140,000 in unpaid taxes, penalties and interest. “All of that has been straighten­ed out,” said Andrew P. Hoesch, manager of H&R Block in the firm’s Chester Metropolit­an Area.

25 Years Ago – 1996:

A Glenolden man was charged Friday with corrupting minors after Collingdal­e police raided a beer party in the woods by Willows Avenue. The spot, according to police Chief Robert Morris, is a popular one for teen-age revelers. 10 Years Ago – 2011: Sixty-seven years ago today, just after dawn, Guerino “Bill” Jacobini stepped out of a Navy landing vessel into the frigid waters of the English Channel and was submerged up to his waist. “We had all our gear. The gun alone weighed 22 pounds,” said Jacobini, who was a skinny 18-year-old at the time, toting a Browning automatic rapid-fire rifle. A private in the 83rd Infantry Division with Gen. George S. Patton’s Third Army, he was among thousands of troops storming the beaches of Normandy. “It’s a miracle I’m here. A lot of fellows didn’t make it,” said the 86-year-old Concord resident.
