Swarthmore survives a scare from Johns Hopkins

Top-ranked Swarthmore its toughest test yet.

George Visconti and Conor Harkins combined to make seven free throws in the final 22 seconds to help the Garnet hold on for a 67-62 Centennial Conference victory over previously undefeated Johns Hopkins.

Visconti hit five foul shots and Harkins two to keep Swarthmore from completely squandering a 10-point lead. Nate Shafer led Swarthmore (9-0, 4-0 Centennial) survived with 15 points. Colin Shaw added 13 points and Visconti had 12. WILLIAMSON 79, BUCKS COUNTY CC

Women’s Basketball

Asonah Alexander and Mia Davis both recorded double doubles to lead Temple to a 74-69 Big 5 victory over Villanova.

Alexander had 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to lead four players in double figures. Davis had 16 points, 11 boards and three assists.

Mary Gedaka paced Villanova with a game-high 20 points. Cameron Onken and Madison Siegrist pitched in with 17 points and 10 rebounds apiece. PSU-BRANDYWINE 70, PSUSCHUYLKIL 60 >> Nikki Velez tallied 25 points to help Brandywine take this first-place showdown in the PSUAC.
