YMCA honors two organizations touching thousands of lives in Delco
The Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County announced this year’s recipients of their annual awards – the Sassy Massey Smiles Foundation and The Delco Group. The awards will be presented at the YMCA’s “We See You Doing Good Things Gala” 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at Drexelbrook Corporate Events Center, Drexel Hill. In addition to the awards, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvre stations, open bar, plus live and silent auctions, and raffles. Prizes will include premium Eagles, Flyers and Sixers tickets, sports merchandise, dinner certificates, a wheelbarrow of spirits, museum passes, spa treatments, plus activities and entertainment for the entire family.
According to a YMCA press release, “each of these amazing organizations have, and continue to go above and beyond to strengthen our community, and enrich the lives of the families and individuals in Delaware County.”
During the event, the Y will present each group with a special award as a thank you for their dedication
Each year, the Sassy Massey Smiles Foundation delivers tens of thousands of toys to children in our area who are in hospitals. The charity was founded in the name of the late Jillian Massey who passed away at age five after battling brain cancer. Last year, the drive collected 30,000 toys for 16 hospitals, including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital. Guests of the event are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys for a giving tree, which the YMCA team will deliver the following week.
The Delco Group is a charitable organization of eleven men, all residents of Delaware County, who help Delco residents who are going through tough times due to illness or other unfortunate circumstances. They help to deliver the toys for the Sassy Massey Toy Drive, as well as raise money for police officers going through illness, help families who’ve lost their home and belongings in fires and other tragedies, and so much more. The group’s says that rather than hand a check to a family, they’d prefer to “create experiences and memories.”
Registration is required for guests. For tickets or information, call Lansdowne YMCA at 610-259-1661 or Ridley YMCA at 610- 5441080.
