Two more District 12 titles for Carroll and O’Hara
It turned out to be a pretty good weekend for the Archbishop Carroll and Cardinal O’Hara volleyball and field hockey teams.
Less than 24 hours after the Patriots and Lions captured the District 12 Class 4A and 3A titles in volleyball, respectively, the field hockey squads accomplished the same feat.
Maeve Riehman scored three times and Alex Almonte added two goals as Carroll blasted Franklin Towne Charter, 11-0, to win its first District 12 Class 2A title since 2015
The victory was Carroll’s sixth District 12 Class 2A crown and eighth district title overall. The Patriots also won the Class 3A championship in 2010 and 2011. Keri Daly, the Catholic League MVP, pitched in with two assists for Carroll (17-4).
The Patriots will take on Merion Mercy, the No. 2 team out of District 1, in the first round of the PIAA tournament Tuesday.
A few hours later, O’Hara pulled out a 1-0 victory over Northeast to claim its seventh straight District
12 Class 3A title and eight overall. The Lions also won the district championship in 2008. No other details were reported.
The Lions play Central Bucks East, the No. 4 team out of District
1, in the opening round of the PIAA Class 3A tournament Tuesday.
Water Polo
Bram Schork scored three times and made three steals to lead The Haverford School to a 19-8 victory over St. Benedict’s Prep in the first round of the Eastern championships.
David Gobora and Matej Sekulic had two goals and two assists apiece. Sekulic also had two steals. Jack Deppen pitched in with two goals and two steals.
