Pair from West Point High School’s Class of 2021 sign for the next level

After spending two years in the junior college ranks, two former West Point Green Wave football players inked their national letters of intent to play two more years.

Both from the West Point High School Class of 2021, Frank Bean and Jamarr Davis were joined by their families and former high school coaches at the Green Wave's field house on Wednesday morning for the early signing period with Bean signing to play at Mississippi College and Davis to the University of Buffalo.

After two years at Itawamba Community College, the offensive lineman Bean said it just felt right to place his signature with the Choctaws.

“First of all, it was the opportunity to play right away that got me on board, and it also just felt like home,” Bean said.

For Bean, he says he doesn't know where he would be if it weren't for the West Point football program, which seems to have it figured out when it comes to getting players to the collegiate level.

“West Point is just great, man,” Bean said. “Everything they do here to push you and make you into a better man is just great, and I don't know where I would be if it weren't for that.”

As for Davis, it takes a while to get from West Point to Buffalo, N.Y., but that didn't matter to the former Northwest Ranger and his decision to spend the rest of his eligibility as a Bull.

“I love the coaches up there and they treat me well,” Davis said. “Plus, they presented the opportunity to start right through the door, so I'm going to take that opportunity and run with it.”

Davis added that he has hopes of becoming an all-conference player, an all-american player, and hopefully make it to the National Football League.

West Point head coach Chris Chambless said he and his staff always strive to prepare the players for what the future is going to hold for them. He is of the opinion that going the junior college route in Mississippi is more favorable than trying to go straight to an

NCAA university straight out of high school.

“We've had some guys go the junior college route and they never knew they had it in them to go play D-1,” Chambless said. “Junior college football in Mississippi is a great route, especially with the transfer portal and that makes it harder for high school kids to get signed, because colleges are going to get kids out of the portal rather than sign them out of high school.”
