How to play the Pick 6

RACE 4

With much of the field untested on turf, going deep in the opening leg of the Pick 6 sequence seems a sound practice. Class-dropping Air Wonderful (10) and Whiskey Business (8), one of the few established on turf, are the top picks – though Afleet Model (1), Temple City Blues (4) and Sir Digan (6) are others with chances.

RACE 5

Mia Tiva Too (1) lacks the current form of probable favorites Far’s Outlaw (8) and Allday-long (10), but being a 3-year-old and lightly raced relative to them, he seems to have more upside. As for the other two, they clearly fit based on their recent efforts, though both have a poor ratio of wins to starts. All three seem well used in gimmicks.

RACE 6

Slimey (3), who rallied to be a close fifth when debuting Aug. 14 at Indiana Grand, is an improvement candidate and rates the edge over first timer Mystic Dreamer (6). Based on workout times, the latter looks she has the most talent of anyone in the field, having worked a half-mile in 48 seconds twice at Churchill Downs.

RACE 7

Delightful alphabet (3) plunges from the straight maiden ranks to run against Indiana-bred maiden $10,000 claimers, and is appealing against the easier company. That results in him being the top selection over second pick Senor Salsa (2), the probable favorite after a runner-up finish at the level.

RACE 8

After going unplaced in the Grade 1 Secretariat, Untamed Domain (6) faces softer in the ungraded, $200,000 Caesar’s Stakes. Winner of last year’s Grade 2 Summer at Woodbine, he has been unlucky at times this year, such as when fifth in heavy traffic in the Grade 3 Kent two starts ago.

RACE 9

Backing the class on the grass – graded winner Beyond Blame (3) seems like the best strategy in the closing race of Wednesday’s Pick 6 at Indiana Grand. Though she was a disappointing fifth last out in the Pucker Up, these rivals do not appear to be of the same quality as the runners she faced that afternoon.
