Cape Henry claims its sixth straight TCIS tourney title

After the lights go out, Dolphins edge Bulldogs in second overtime

- Staff reports

Graydon Campbell scored the game-winner in the second overtime to lift Cape Henry to a 2-1 victory over Norfolk Academy in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools Tournament boys soccer championship game Friday night.

After a delay because the lights went out, the teams resumed play. Campbell’s goal with eight minutes left in the second OT gave the Dolphins their sixth consecutive TCIS Tournament championship. Cape Henry also has won seven straight conference regular-season titles.

The Dolphins were unbeaten in TCIS play this season and recorded a second win over Norfolk Academy, following a 2-0 regular-season victory.

On Friday, the teams were scoreless at halftime. Norfolk Academy struck first when Ollie Coleman scored 13 minutes into the second half.

Cape Henry got the equalizer when Andrew McGuigan scored on an assist from Cole Hughes.

The Dolphins’ victory likely earned them a home game in next week’s VISAA Division I tournament. Norfolk Academy is more likely to have to travel.
