ACTIVITIES AT FRENCH CREEK THIS WEEKEND

SATURDAY (JULY 24)

• 10a.m.-noon: Intro to map and compass at playground behind Park Office, 843Park Road. Learn how to operate a map and compass properly. Great beginner course suited for all.

• 1-4 p.m.: Six Penny Hike at Campground; Loop D entrance, 410Park Road. Join the park naturalist on a 3.5mile hike to the original day use area created by the CCC. Look for interestin­g flora and fauna and learn about the history of the area.

• 3-4p.m.: Ask a DCNR Ranger at Campground Amphitheat­er, 410Park Road. What does a DCNR Ranger do? How do you become one? Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding the duties of a DCNR Ranger.

• 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Old-timey games at Campground Amphitheat­er, 410 Park Road. Drop by this open invitation to play any time between 4:30and 5:30and try your hand at some of the games that were played here in the past.

• 5-7 p.m.: Meet Smokey Bear, Campground Amphitheat­er, 410 Park Road.

• 7-8p.m.: Wild Edibles with Debbie Naha at Park Office, 843 Park Road. Naha, featured on NPR, has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to wild edibles. Join her for a short walk and slide show presentati­on to learn about these local wild edibles.

SUNDAY (JULY 25)

• 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Three in and Three out with NPS Ranger Bill from Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, at French Creek Park Office, 843Park Road. Stop by at any time between 10a.m.-2p.m. to learn about the various items created by Hopewell Furnace.

• Noon-2 p.m.: Meet Smokey Bear at Hopewell Lake Boat Launch, 785 Park Road.
