Downingtow­n East wrestlers edge host Downingtow­n West

The Downingtow­n East High School wrestling team earned a 36-35 win against host Downingtow­n West Wednesday evening, getting pins from Hillestad Alex (113 pounds), Lukas Richie (138), Jett Lucas-Murphy (152) and Spencer Uggla (160). D-East also picked up wins by Zach Sharaf (285), Manuel Keanu (major decision at 106) and Kyle Mittlestad­t (technical fall at 132). The host Whippets got falls from Ethan Niemeyer (120), Maximus Hale (170) and Joe Shafer (195). WEST CHESTER EAST 39, AVON GROVE 28» The Vikings got falls from Jack Warner (132 pounds), Andrew DiBernardo (195) and Andrew Luke (120). The host Red Devils got pins from Zach Smith (145), Nick Barnhart (152), Chris Buonocore (220, in 44 seconds) and Brock Wickline (126). GREAT VALLEY 46, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 22» The host Patriots got pins from Casey Capetola (126 pounds), Aidan O’Neil (145), Jack Semar (152, in 50 seconds), Andrew DiSanto (182) and Ethan Seeley (220).

Boys Basketball

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 50, WILSON 34 » The Cougars (12-9) defeated host Wilson (19-3), the top seed in District 3, led by Andrew King, who had 18 points (13 in the second half). DEast held talented sophomore Steve Mitchell to just nine points, 12 under his per-game average. Cougar point guard Andres Mujica had his second straight game with no turnovers, and teammates Tariq Kalim and Dylan Rowe scored 10 points apiece. NEUMANN GORETTI 45, DEVON PREP 31 » The host Tide got nine points from Scion Dorsey, and six points each from Nick Crowe and Eamonn Walsh.

Girls Basketball

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 56, WILSON 48 » The Cougars were led by Bella Smuda, who scored 23 points. Teammates Caroline Brennan and Lauren Kent combined for an additional 21 points. D-East trailed 40-39 after three quarters, but outscored Wilson 17-8 in the final period. OXFORD 49, DELCO CHRISTIAN 25 » The Hornets were led by Anna Hampshire’s 14 points, and held a 29-10 halftime lead in their final nonleague game of the regular season. Cristina Fernandez chipped in with 13 points for Oxford.

College Women’s Basketball

IMMACULATA UNIVERSITY 64, GWYNEDD MERCY 54 » The Mighty Macs clinched a spot in the Atlantic East postseason with a season sweep of Gwynedd Mercy on Play4Kay Night. Amber Ballinger went 8-for-11 from the field and led Immaculata with 22 points.

Men’s Basketball

GWYNEDD MERCY 80, IMMACULATA UNIVERSITY 71 » Brandon McCullough led the host Mighty Macs with a teamhigh 20 points, as Immaculata fell to 4-6 in Atlantic East play.
