Lawmaker collecting canned goods, coats for less fortunate residents
WEST CHESTER >> As the holidays approach, state Senator Andy Dinniman reminded residents, families, and businesses to visit his West Chester District Office to donate canned goods or coats to benefit those in need this season.
“We continue to collect canned goods and nonperishable food items yearround for the West Chester Food Cupboard and the Salvation Army of West Chester,” Dinniman said. “And beginning this week, we are again collecting coats for hospitalized and homeless veterans.”
Through a partnership with local nonprofit David’s Drive 831, new or gently worn, clean coats are being collected through December. The greatest need is for coats in larger sizes.
Dinniman also welcomed residents to stop by his office, located at historic One North Church Street (corner of Church and Market Streets), for a special holiday open house on this Friday evening (November 30) during the 39th Annual West Chester Christmas Parade.
In addition to being an ideal location for parade viewing, Dinniman’s office will again host a live performance by the Chancel Bell Ringers of the West Chester First Presbyterian Church beginning at about 6 p.m.
“I invite you to stop by, enjoy the bell ringers, and donate some canned goods or a coat to help ensure that no one is left cold or hungry this holiday season. After all, that’s the real spirit of the season,” he said. “Your assistance could be the difference in making a local family’s holiday special.”
The Dinniman’s office is regularly open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please be sure to check expiration dates on food items.
In addition, Dinniman noted that his office also collects used eyeglasses for The Lions Club and old cellular telephones for the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County’s SmartPhone Recycling Program.
