Devon Prep blanks Ryan in PCL debut
Alex Hardie and Nick Bello found the net for the Devon Prep boys soccer team Wednesday as the Tide picked up a shutout win, 2-0 over Archbishop Ryan, in their first ever game as a member of the Philadelphia Catholic League.

DOWNINGTOWN WEST 1, RADNOR 0» Maddie Greco scored a late goal on an assist from Jenna Bianco to help the Whippets pull out the nonleague win. Goalie Luke Grycewicz had eight saves for Devon Prep (1-0, 1-1) in the win.
Boys Cross Country
DOWNINGTOWN EAST 21, COATESVILLE 38 » In a race reduced to two miles due to the heat, the Cougars swept the top three spots with Russel Winters (11:10), Jacob Lawson (11:17) and Nick Robinson (11:22) leading the way. Josh Campagna (11:28), Jahmir Carter (11:28) and Ryan Corsello (11:30) went four-fivesix for Coatesville.

D OWNING TOWN EAST 25, COATESVILLE 34 » The Red Raiders’ Sammie Miller (13:12) cruised to the win in the race, which was shortened to two miles due to heat. The next closest runner was Charlotte Roumpz of Downingtown East, 35 seconds behind. She was followed by Coatesville’s Leah Moffit (14:01), East’s Corinne Strommer (14:18) and the Cougars’ Lara McDowell (14:25).

UNIONVILLE 181, AVON GROVE 229 » Chris Skean shot 35, Richie Kline and Connor Bennink shot 36, and Will Bennink and Jon Passarello fired 37s as the reigning state champions rolled to the Ches-Mont League win. Unionville moed to 7-0 on the season with the win. KENNETT 217, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 219 » A wellrounded effort from the Blue Demons was enough to best Rustin at French Creek Golf Club. All five Kennett players shot between 42 and 45, with Jack Ryan (42) leading the way. Griffin Haas (43), Jack Mullen (43), Luke Mullen (44) and Nimah Narinesingh-Smith (45) scored for Kennett in the Ches-Mont win. Rustin’s Ryan D’Ariano led all scorers with a 36. WEST CHESTER EAST 199, DOWNINGTOWN EAST 218 » Freshman Victoria Kim birdied the final hole to shoot a 1-over-par 37 and lead the Vikings to the Ches-Mont win at Whitford Country Club. GREAT VALLEY 213, OXFORD 240 » Griffin Lownes shot a 2-over-par 37 to lead the Patriots to the Ches-Mont League win at Chester Valley. Tyler Teague (41), Daniel Muck (43), Matt Curtis (45) and Chase Wolgamott (47) finished the scoring for Great Valley. Matthew Todd (43), Rocco Giannangeli (46) and Joseph Madden (47) led the way for the Hornets. CONESTOGA SWEEPS TO TWO CENTRAL WINS » Kemp Bassett shot a 1-under-par round of 34 to lead the Pioneers (184) to two Central League wins, over Marple Newtown (235) and Garnet Valley (205). Ben Lee and Will Blatchford both shot rounds of 37 while Michael Wale and Cutter Harvey shot 38s.

GREAT VALLEY 207, HATBORO-HORSHAM 221 » Senior Amanda Heins led the way with a 9-over-par round of 44 to lead the Patriots to a PAC win over the Hatters. Mae Sharaf (46), Elaine Loose (52), Kathryn Pendergast (65) and Ava Matty (66) finished the Great Valley scoring.

Women’s Cross Country
PURNELL NAMED CIAA RUNNER OF THE WEEK » Lincoln’s Nazirah Purnell was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after her performance at the Wilmington University Invite last weekend. Purnell had the highest place ever for a Lincoln runner at the event, finishing ninth overall with a time of 22:41. She is the first Lincoln athlete to be honored by the CIAA since 2015. Purnell was PSAC Runner of the Week last October when she was at Cheyney University.
