One man was taken to the hospital Thursday after a fall at a construction site left him injured.

According to officials, first responders were called to North Washington Street and King Street at around 12:33 p.m. Thursday for a rescue involving a worker who had fallen into a hole in the street.

“One of the streets workers had been standing on the excavated area and what happened was eventually, where he was standing the road gave way,” said Pottstown Borough Fire Chief Michael Lessar Jr. “He fell into the pit and ended up striking a pipe and fell in again, so he had two falls.”

Goodwill ambulance then arrived on the scene and called for the fire department’s assistance to extricate the injured worker.

“The fire department then monitored the air space to make sure that it was tenable for everybody to be in there and we put him on the backboard, put him on the Stokes basket and removed him from the hole,” Lessar said.

Lessar said it took crews about 22 minutes to remove the worker from the 10-foot deep hole.

The injured worker was seen wearing a neck brace as he was lifted from the hole to a waiting Goodwill Ambulance.

Authorities did not disclose the name or age of the worker and said they could not comment on the extent of his injuries.
