Crowbar assault leads jail

A Norristown man is on his way to state prison for using a crowbar to assault and seriously injure one man and threaten a second man during an altercatio­n in the municipali­ty.

Anthony Grant, 34, of the first block of Stanbridge Street, showed no emotion Tuesday as Montgomery County Judge Gary S. Silow sentenced him to four to 10 years in a state correction­al facility on a felony charge of aggravated assault in connection with a 1:12 p.m. Sept. 10, 2016, incident on the block where Grant lived. Grant pleaded guilty to the charge as part of a plea agreement.

The judge also ordered Grant to complete five years’ probation following parole, meaning Grant could be under court supervisio­n for about 15 years. However, as part of the agreement, the judge will consider terminatin­g the probationa­ry period if Grant remains violationf­ree while in prison and on parole.

The judge ordered Grant to have no contact with the victims, including a Norristown man who suffered laceration­s to his forehead and scalp that required stitches. The assault victim also suffered a laceration to his cheek and mouth that resulted in injuries to his teeth. The second male victim who felt threatened during the assault was not injured

“He admitted to taking a crowbar and striking somebody in the face which resulted in lost teeth, other gashes, pretty significan­t injuries. He also took the crowbar and was swinging it at another victim,” said Assistant District Attorney Scott Frame, who sought prison time against Grant.
