Art exhibition opens May 19
Recent works by artists Brian David Dennis and Keith R. Breitfeller will be exhibited at STUDIO, a high-end home furnishing consignment shop in Wayne, sister to The Velvet Shoestring. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, May 19, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.., and will remain on view through Sunday, June 25 during regular business hours.
The exhibition, “con•tex•ture: Recent works by Brian David Dennis and Keith R. Breitfeller,” focuses on the assembled qualities of Dennis’ mixed media collages and Breitfeller’s unique color field paintings. Working toward different goals and through difference processes, each artist demonstrates “contexture,” defined as “the act of interweaving or assembling parts to form a connected whole,” or “a structure of interconnected parts.” Through techniques of layering, overlapping, masking, and combining of disparate forms and materials, Dennis and Breitfeller take different paths to arrive at a coherency that renders each of their works complete. The results are lively, energetic compositions from Dennis that balance the soft, meditative color studies of Breitfeller.
“con•tex•ture” is the first exhibition in a newly established art program at STUDIO. Sixteen collages and paintings will be displayed in STUDIO’s unique environment, which carefully arranges its furnishings into lived spaces. In this context, viewers can readily imagine how the collages and paintings will appear in their own homes. All artworks and home furnishings are available for sale.
The exhibition is curated by Susanna W. Gold, Ph.D., Art Historian and Independent Curator based in Bryn Mawr.
