Works of art created by 30 West Chester Area School District elementary students is now on display through May 11 at the Exton Square Mall.

The 30 unique pieces of art, which include drawings, paintings and clay pieces, are featured in a special exhibit that’s located inside the Chester County Art Association’s Exton Square Studio.

Art created by three students from each of the district’s 10 elementary schools were selected by art teachers for inclusion in the exhibit based on the student’s creativity and innovative use of media.

“The artwork from our elementary school students is more impressive and creative each year. It is quite an honor to be selected, and it is extremely rewarding for our students and their parents to see the artwork on display in the art gallery,” said David Ehrhart, supervisor of World Languages, Fine Arts and Career Education for the district.

An opening reception and ceremony was held Thursday, April 14 inside the studio to kick off the exhibit.

More than 100 students, parents, staff and community members attended to meet the artists, view and learn about their artwork and celebrate the arts.

“I am amazed at the talent demonstrated by the elementary artists — their creativity, enthusiasm and passion for art was evident as they explained their artwork to me,” Ehrhart said.

The Chester County Art Association’s Exton Square Studio is located on the lower level of the Exton Square Mall between Boscov’s and H&M, and features select hours of operation: Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While the student artwork is not for sale, other artwork within the studio is for sale.

The exhibit is sponsored by the district and Art Goes to School, a volunteer organization that teaches art appreciation classes to elementary students.
