SCOUT NOTES
Eighteen senior-level Girl Scouts in Chester County have earned the Girl Scouts’ highest honor, the Gold Award. Each year, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) is pleased to award its most outstanding senior-level scouts with the celebrated honor of the Gold Award which, established in 1916, recognizes excellence and leadership in young women. Girl Scout seniors and ambassadors have the opportunity to earn this award by completing a Take Action Project, in which they create and implement a special objective that will positively impact their community.
In order to earn this toplevel honor, a Girl Scout will choose an issue that affects her community and will take action to resolve it. Each girl received approval on her proposed issue, investigated the opportunity thoroughly, created a plan of action and finally took action to resolve the issue. All recipients completed an estimated 80 hours of work on their project.
The 18 senior-level Girl Scouts in Chester County and their projects are as follows: Annelise Aurillo of West Chester: “Bathroom Renovation for abused Women and Children”; Charlotte Carstens of West Chester: “Room Renovation in a Domestic Violence Daycare Facility”; Kirsten DeFrank of Oxford: “Refurbishment of The Spring Lawn Trail”; Alice Dowd of Malvern: “Renovation of The Freedom Foundation’s Medal of Honor Grove”; Rebecca Fisher of West Chester: “Production of Materials for patients in Paoli Hospital and The Adult Day Care of Chester County”; Anne Gorman of Cochranville: “Literacy and education of underprivileged and bilingual children”; Danielle Heron of Berwyn: “Read for Hope: The Logan Library Chapter”; Madeline Iffert of Wayne: “Provided recreational activities for Camilla Hall Nursing Home of Immaculata for the retired I.H.M.
