KINGSTON, N.Y. » The MidHudson Valley again will provide the backdrop for an HBO miniseries, this one focusing on the roles of E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy in the Watergate scandal and the downfall of President Richard M. Nixon.

The five-part series, called “The White House Plumbers,” will feature Woody Harrelson as Hunt and Justin Theroux as Liddy.

Filming is to begin in May, with scenes shot in such Mid-Hudson locales as Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Newburgh.

This will be the third HBO miniseries at least partly shot in region since 2019, following “I Know This Much is True,” starring Mark Ruffalo, and “The Undoing,” starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.

According to a press release, “The White House Plumbers” will tell the true story of how Hunt and Liddy, Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, wound up toppling the presidency they were trying to protect.

Liddy, who was the Nixon administration liaison and leader of the group of five men who broke into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate complex in Washington, was a Dutchess County resident who served as assistant district attorney in the mid-1960s.

In that capacity, he is known for leading the 1966 drug raid on the Hitchcock Estate in Millbrook, which then was occupied by LSD guru Timothy Leary, and for the 1969 politically motivated drug raid at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson that involved, among others, students Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, who went on to form the band Steely Dan. They immor

talized that raid in their song “My Old School,” in which Liddy is referred to as “Daddy Gee.”

Grant Wilfley Casting has put out a casting call for local residents interested in working as extras in the “The White House Plumbers.” Interested people should be OK being around smoke and have naturalcolor hair. Those who are chosen will have their hair altered to a 1970s style.

The company also is looking for Hudson Valley residents with cars from the 1960s or 1970s who would be interested in working as extras with their vehicles. Interested residents should email a current photo of themselves and their vehicle to locations@gwcnyc.com. The email should include the person’s name and contact information, as well as the year, color, make and model of the vehicle. The emails should have “Hudson Valley Period Car” in the subject line.
