MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. >> A Middletown High School student was fatally stabbed in the chest during a domestic dispute, and a city woman was charged with murder, the Middletown Police Department said Wednesday.

Roy Boyd, 17, of Middletown, was stabbed about 6 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 16 Orchard St., police said. They said officers responding to a 911 call found Boyd “lying gravely injured” on the sidewalk in front of 66 E. Main St. where he had fled on foot before collapsing.

Boyd was taken by ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Chelsea Johnson, 19, of 16 Orchard St., was arrested and charged with seconddegree murder in connection with Boyd’s death, police said.

After arriving at the scene, investigators learned Boyd and an acquaintance, Brandon Royer, 19, of Middletown, had been in a dispute with Johnson, police said. They said Johnson was Royer’s ex-girlfriend and that they had a disagreement during a phone call earlier in the day.

Police said Royer apparently drove with Boyd to confront Johnson. An argument between Royer and Johnson then took place in the street in front of the residence, where it is alleged Johnson took out a knife and stabbed Boyd, police said.

They said Royer and Johnson continued their dispute, during which Royer picked up a blunt object and threw it through a window.

Royer was found with Boyd on East Main Street, and he was charged with the misdemeanor of criminal mischief, police said. They said Johnson was found at her home, taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

Both Johnson and Royer were awaiting arraignment in Middletown City Court, police said.

Police said no additional suspects were being sought but that anyone who might have witnessed the incident or have other pertinent information should contact them.

Police said the Middletown school district has made grief counseling available to students and staff members. Parents should contact the school administration to arrange for services, they said.
