16U Fillies lose in Matamoras tourney semis

The Kingston American Legion Post 150 Ulster Fillies rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but lost 6-5 to the Tri-State Angels in the semifinals of the Veteran’s Memorial 16U softball tournament.

Singles by Abby Lee and Jess Kreck fueled the rally. With two out, Grace Tremper hit an RBI double and Bianca Novotny doubled in two runs. The Fillies had the tying run on second when a popup ended the game.

Tremper had two doubles in the game.

Ulster reached the semis as Victoria DeMercurio struck out 10 and pitched a complete-game, five-inning, one-hit 11-0 shutout over the Frozen Ropes. DeMercurio and Kailyn Lukaszewsk­i both had a double and two RBI, Novotny hit a solo homer, Tremper had a single, double and one RBI, Erin Ricks had a RBI double and Lee scored twice in the win.

The Fillies rolled to three wins in pool play, beating the Beacon Xtreme 9-0, Frozen Ropes 20-1 and the OC Bombers 16-2. DeMercurio had two of the wins, while Mel Papuli took the other.
