BASKETBALL Officiating Scholastic Boys Basketball:
Classes for prospective referees will be held by the IAABO Board 114. Classes begin 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Spackenkill High School. They will run Mondays and Thursdays (except first night due to Columbus Day) for four weeks through Nov. 6, when the IAABO written exam will be given. Course cost is $65, payable first night and $105 on exam night. Prospective candidates must be at least 18 years of age and reside in either Ulster, Dutchess, Columbia or Greene counties. BOWLING Saugerties Bowlers Tournament Club:
First event of the season 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Bowlers Club. Check-in at 12:30. All bowlers will use last year’s average. Regular tournaments bowled last Sunday of each month through March. Dates subject to change based on lane availability. Participants receive points for each tournament they compete in toward the Championship in April. This is a handicap tournament. League Announcements Bowlers Club Junior League: The Saugerties Bowlers Club has
formed a USBC Junior League that will start Sept. 9 and meet 11 a.m. Saturdays. All ages are welcome and the cost is $6 per week. There will be Bumper Bowling for new and younger players to help them develop. Bring your own 3-person team or the Club will help you form a team. FENCING Woodstock Fencing Club:
Meets 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Cafetorium at the Woodstock Elementary School (when school is open). Instruction given at all levels in all weapons — Foil, Sabre and Epee from 6:30-8. Turkey Shoot: 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at the South Side Rod and Gun Club, 43 Baker Road, West Hurley. Variety of events: running deer, 100-yard bench rest, pistol, shotgun slug and .22 caliber rifle. There will also be stations set up for children to use air rifles. Hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks will be sold. Firearm safety strictly enforced.
