LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. >> Kaitlynn Schrowang hit a first-inning grand slam and Shannon Bonewit tossed a one-hitter, propelling Kingston High to a 15-0 victory over Pine Bush in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I softball game.

The (3-2 division, 5-3 overall) Tigers banged out 18 hits in the contest, which was stopped in the bottom of the sixth by the 15-run mercy rule.

Bonewit struck out six, walked four and allowed just Brandi McNamara’s one-out double in the third while handcuffing Pine Bush. McNamara stole third, but Bonewit fielded a comebacker and threw her out at the plate to preserve her shutout bid.

An error and singles by Sydney Bonewit and Jessica Chilcott set up Schrowang’s grand slam.

“That first inning definitely set the tone,” Kingston coach Trishann Hayes said.

The Tigers batted around again in the second, scoring five runs six hits, including RBI singles from

Chilcott, Megan Peace and

Lauren Shambro, plus Alyssa Villielm’s two-run single.

Kingston tacked on three more runs in the third on a Peace two-run double and a Shambo single. The Tigers

closed out the scoring in the sixth as Chilcott and Schrowang hit back-to-back RBI doubles.

Schrowang finished with a five-RBI day. Chilcott had

three hits and three RBI, Shambo had three hits and two RBI and Shannon Bonewit also collected three hits.

“We were hitting like we should be,” Hayes said.
