Charles E. Dietz, Jr., 84, of Red Hook, N.Y., and formerly of Monroe, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y.

Born on July 22, 1932, in Bayonne, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles E. Dietz, Sr., and Theresa (Betaschay) Dietz. Charles married Lillian Garippa on Sept. 11, 1954, in Jersey City, N.J. His loving wife of 62 years, Lillian, survives at home in Red Hook.

For 30 years, Charles worked for the Ford Motor Company. And later, as a school bus driver for the Monroe-Woodbury school district.

Charles served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir.

He was a communican­t of St. Christophe­r’s Church in Red Hook, and previously of St. Anastasia Church in Harriman, N.Y., where he served on their Parish Council and as the facility maintenanc­e manager.

Charles was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfathe­r. He was a good-hearted man who will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children: Donna (Bill) Downs of Howell, Mich., Lisa (Jim) Obrizok of Red Hook, N.Y., and Charles (Veronica) Dietz, III, of Cos Cob, Conn.; his siblings, Johnny Dietz of Hawaii, Marylou Lang of California, and Joseph Dietz of Florida; two granddaugh­ters, Jill and Jenna Obrizok, along with many step-grandchild­ren, step-great-grandchild­ren, extended family, and friends.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at St. Christophe­r’s Church, Red Hook, N.Y. Interment will be private at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Charles’s memory to; St. Christophe­r’s Parish in Red Hook, N.Y., the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or to the American Heart Associatio­n.
