Red Hook, Onteora, Saugerties chalk up victories

Red Hook High’s boys sewed up the second seed for the upcoming Section 9, Class A basketball tournament Monday night with a 68-43 Mid-Hudson Athletic League triumph over New Paltz.

Dennis Hare (19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals), Nick Michitsch (15 points, five rebounds, four steals) and Colin Bemis (14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists) paced the (11-5) Raiders.

“I’m extremely happy with how our guys played tonight,” Red Hook Matt Hayes said. “Our last three games, it just never felt like we were sharp or energetic. We had high energy consistent­ly throughout the game tonight and received contributi­ons from all 12 guys. I’m hoping that we are now back on track and can continue to play with the energy and passion that will help us in the upcoming postseason.”

At Boiceville, Onteora game through in a big “must-win” game to clinch a sectional berth.

Matthew Vines had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Dylan Clark scored 13 points, Nick Fulford had six points and 10 rebounds and Jameson Morton had a big performanc­e with seven points, 10 assists and seven rebounds to lead the Indians.

Deante Bruce connected for 15 points, Tyrique Wooton scored 11 and Jose Cruz and Marc Rodriguez tallied nine apiece for Ellenville. Saugerties 71, Highland 54

At Saugerties, Shawn Jansen had a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, Jeroy Gordon scored 14 points, Dondre Francis had eight assists and three steals and Matt Nilsen came off the bench for 10 fourth-quarter points to lead the Sawyers.

Mike Doxey and Jacob Rao tallied 14 and 13 points, respective­ly, to pace Highland. At Poughkeeps­ie, Spackenkil­l outscored Millbrook 32-4 in the third quarter to pull away and clinch the Division III title.

Camron Abalos tallied 25 points and Kyiev Bennermon and Tucker Lee scored 12 each to lead the Spartans.

Humberto Cabrera, who was injured early in the second quarter, and Alfredo Sosa scored 12 apiece to pace Millbrook.
