SACRED HEART WOMEN 68, WAGNER 51

FAIRFIELD — The Pioneers held the Seahawks to two points in the second quarter and never looked back to win in the quarterfin­als of the NEC tournament Monday evening at the Pitt Center.

Sacred Heart led 16-10 after the first quarter and held Wagner to one basket on 1-for-12 shooting (8.3 percent) in the second quarter to take a 34-12 lead into halftime.

The second-seeded Pioneers (19-11) will host fourthseed­ed St. Francis Brooklyn in the semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Katherine Haines scored a team-best 21 points to lead Sacred Heart and Candice Leatherwoo­d and Allyson Murphy added 17 and 10 points, respective­ly. BASEBALL Bentley 10, Bridgeport 5; Tampa 10, Bridgeport 7 Alex Rauso, of Trumbull, went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, including a solo home run, Ryan Donnelly, of Fairfield, went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored and Conall Roberts, Anthony Jacabacci and Bobby Pollock each drove in one run in the first game and Rauso went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored, Patrick Palmer, of Ansonia, drove in two runs and Donnelly went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored in the second game for the Purple Knights (1-9) in Tampa, Fla. SOFTBALL Bridgeport 8, Lake Erie 0 (5 inn.); Bridgeport 3, LeMoyne 1: Miranda Hillman threw a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts, Jenna DiLorenzo, of Woodbridge, hit a two-run double and Allison Luzzi hit a home run in the first game and Amanda Staheli (4-0) pitched a complete game, two-hitter and Stephanie Dean doubled twice and had two RBIs in the second game for the Purple Knights (7-1) in Clermont, Fla.
