BRIDGEPORT — The 28-year-old local man who was severely wounded in a drive-by shooting on Halloween night that killed a female friend has died from his wounds.

Police said David “Doodles” Belle, who underwent hours of surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center for six gunshot wounds, died in intensive care Tuesday.

Belle and 41-year-old Myoshi Bagley, the mother of two young children, were standing on Howard Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 31 when numerous shots were fired at them from a passing vehicle, police said.

Bagley, a popular hair stylist, died from a gunshot to the chest.

After Belle was shot, police and family members were hopeful that he would pull through. He underwent extensive surgeries; his spleen, a kidney and part of his liver were removed, police said.

Police said they believe Belle was the target of the shooting but did not provide any possible motive.

Police Chief Armando Perez said earlier that detectives are sifting through clues and hoping that an arrest will be made soon. The chief said that video footage is aiding investigators in their hunt for who’s responsible.

This was the ninth homicide in Bridgeport so far this year.

Friends said Belle grew up on the city’s West Side and was very interested in music.
