2018 BRIDGEPORT DISTRICT GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP: Begins at a.m. Thursday Aug. 23 at Mill River Country Club in Stratford. Thursday's team competition consists of Brownson, Fairchild Wheeler, Oronoque, Smith Richardson, Tashua Knolls, Whitney Farms and Mill River. Individual match play begins at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 25. Defending champions are Brian Gallo of the host club Mill River, Senior Champion Bob Murphy of Brownson and Legends Champion Joe Mastroni of Fairchild Wheeler. Finals are scheduled for Sunday around noon.
PARK CITY GUYS: The Park City Guys, an informal get-together of Bridgeporters from the different sections of the city and the greater Bridgeport area, will conduct its sixth annual dinner Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Testo’s on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport. This year’s affair will be dedicated to the late Ed “Corny” Cornwell for his lifetime of service to the regional sports scene.
LORDSHIP 5 K: The 25th Anniversary running of the Lordship 5 K Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8. The USAT&F certified course is fast and flat with beautiful views of Long Island Sound. The Race previously voted “Favorite Small Race” in Connecticut provides for both youngsters, teams and traditional categories. Runners will be greeted at the end of the run by a food fest supplied by Lordship Community Church. Special 25th Anniversary Sport-Tek Dri TShirts will be given to all pre-registered 5K and Kid Fun participants and the first 100 race day runners. Trophies are awarded in all classes and categories. The Kid’s Fun Run will start at 8:30 a.m., entry fee $5. The 5 K Race starts at 9 a.m. with an entry fee of $20. Families of 3 or more are $15 per person. Late registration can be made the day of the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $25.
