Shanghai has promoted the development of global film and television production while the construction of the Shanghai High-Tech Film and Television City has delivered impressive results.

Shanghai High-Tech Film and Television City is located in Songjiang district, which is a vital part of the city’s efforts to build a globally influential film and TV center.

Covering an area of 60.58 square kilometers, Shanghai High-Tech Film and Television City will be a place for an agglomeration of high-tech films and television enterprises. It will also serve as a window for cultural exchange between domestic and overseas film and television industries.

Shanghai High-tech Films and Television City will have 60 studios, some 40 of which will be high-tech. They will be supplemented by offices, education facilities and other institutions.

Another key site is the Yangtze River Delta region international film and TV center. It is a collaboration between the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Huace Group, which started construction in Songjiang district earlier this year.

Covering an area of 5 hectares, the project will become an agglomeration of high-tech film companies and studios. It will aid strategic cooperation among major film and TV production bases in the Yangtze River Delta region.

It will also work to develop a comprehensive network covering a wide range of industries, such as culture, science and technology, entertainment and tourism, officials said.

As a long-term film and TV industry base, Songjiang has stepped up its efforts to fuel the industry’s development in recent years.

This year, the district announced a raft of upgraded preferential policies for the film and TV industry’s development.

According to the upgraded policies for film and TV industry projects with a total investment above 20 million yuan ($3 million), the subsidy has been raised to 12 million yuan from 5 million yuan.

Besides that, the policies add subsidies to the application of advanced cloud services on intelligent film and TV cloud platforms.

So far, the construction of world-class shooting bases, such as Chedun high-tech shooting base, Zhongshi Ruyi and Haopu, have seen positive progress, authorities said.

Other projects, such as the second phase of the Shanghai Film Park, 1905 International Film and TV Industrial Park, have also gone well.

A number of new projects, such as the Xingkong variety show, film and TV research and development base, and Tencent intelligent film and TV industry base, were signed this year.

According to local authorities, in 2020, Songjiang introduced 707 new film and TV enterprises. It represents an increase of 146.3 percent from the same period last year.

Shanghai High-Tech Film and Television City has gathered more than 6,000 enterprises.

Last year, a copyright services institution for film and television production was founded, a move for the city to strengthen its copyright protection and crackdown on infringement in the industry.

Cooperating with leading law firms, banks, universities and tech companies, the institution provides up to 20 copyrightservices for film and television makers.
