■ Astros: Manager AJ Hinch said 2B Jose Altuve suffered a light left hamstring strain Friday night against against the Rangers, and that the 2017 AL MVP would be examined further to determine the severity of he injury. Hinch also said he expected Altuve to land on the IL, but he didn’t think “it was a big deal” and the club planned to be “very careful.”

■ Blue Jays: RHP Edwin Jackson was acquired in a trade with the A’s for cash considerat­ions. If Jackson, 35, is called up the Blue Jays’ major league roster, he will set an MLB record for most teams played for at 14. He and former RHP Octavio Dotel are tied at 13. Dotel last played in 2013 for the Tigers. Jackson, who was with the A’s Triple-A team, has played for the Rays, Dodgers, Cubs, Nationals, White Sox, Diamondbac­ks, Braves, Cardinals, A’s, Padres, Orioles, Marlins and Tigers.

■ Red Sox, Mariners: Sandy Leon hit a three-run HR to cap an eight-run third that carried the surging Red Sox over the struggling Mariners 9-5 in Boston. The World Series champs won for the 15th time in 21 games. Former AL Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez became the 36th pitcher to reach 2,500 strikeouts when Red Sox rookie Michael Chavis took a 92 mph sinker for a called third strike in the second. ■ Rays: Willy Adames and Ji-Man Choi hit run-scoring infield singles in the sixth after tempers flared during the top of the inning when reliever Yonny Chirinos hit Luke Voit near the left shoulder, and the AL East-leading Rays beat the Yankees 7-2 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Yandy Diaz homered twice and drove in four runs for the Rays, who reopened a 11⁄2-game lead over the Yankees. Voit was hit by Chirinos (5-1) one batter after DJ LeMahieu’s tying solo HR. Although there was no on-field incidents after Voit was hit, Yankees starter CC Sabathia went to the top of the dugout and yelled toward the Rays.

■ Cubs: Willson Contreras homered in the 15th to give the Cubs a 2-1 victory over the Brewers in Chicago. It was the Cubs’ 11th win in 13 games and moved them back in front of the Brewers by one game atop the NL Central.

■ Pirates: Jordan Lyles overcame a 30-pitch first to combine with four relievers on a two-hitter, and the Pirates beat the Cardinals 2-1 in St. Louis for their seventh win in 10 games following an eight-game skid. Lyles (3-1) allowed one hit through six innings, struck out six and walked three, lowering his ERA to 2.09, fifth-best in the NL.

■ Angels: Albert Pujols homered twice to increase his career total to 641, had three RBIs and scored three runs to help the Angels beat the Orioles 7-2 in Baltimore. 2018 AL rookie of the year Shohei Ohtani had two hits and an RBI for the Angels in his fifth game this season.

■ Extra innings: The Nationals reinstated OF Juan Soto from the IL ahead of their game against the Dodgers. Soto had been out with back spasms . ... The Phillies placed RHP Vince Velasquez on the IL with a right forearm strain.
