Eagles to hire Sirianni as coach
Nick Sirianni’s success working with various quarterbacks with different styles will come in handy in his new job.
The Eagles are nearing a deal to hire Sirianni to be their coach, according to multiple reports Thursday. Sirianni was the offensive coordinator for the Colts the last three seasons. The 39-year-old Sirianni previously served as an assistant coach with the Chiefs and Chargers.
Sirianni worked with Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett and Philip Rivers in Indianapolis and coached Rivers in San Diego and Matt Cassel in Kansas City. Now he’ll be tasked with figuring out how to get Carson Wentz back to his 2017 form.
Wash. hires first Black female coach
The Washington Football Team will promote Jennifer King to offensive assistant, according to multiple reports, making her the first Black woman to be a full-time NFL coach. King worked with running backs coach Randy Jordan this season as a fulltime intern.
The team also reportedly is hiring 49ers executive Martin Mayhew as its general manager. Mayhew spent the last two seasons as the vice president of player personnel for the 49ers. He was the Giants’ director of football operations in 2016 and the Lions’ general manager in 2008-15 after eight years in the team’s front office.

Vikings OC Kubiak calling it quits
Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, 59, retired after a 36-year career as a player, coach and adviser in the NFL. Kubiak participated in seven Super Bowls as a player or coach, winning four titles. His most recent ring came after the 2015 season as the Broncos’ coach.
Packers’ 2010 Super Bowl architect dies
Ted Thompson, whose 13-year run as Packers general manager included their 2010 Super Bowl championship season, died at 68. Thompson was diagnosed with an autonomic nerve disorder in May 2019. He was the GM in 2005-17 and drafted many notable players on the current roster.
Mahomes on track to start
Patrick Mahomes took the majority of first-team reps in practice, even though he remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, raising expectations that he will start in the AFC title game against the Bills.
Haskins signs with Steelers
The Steelers signed former Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins to a futures contract, giving the 23-year-old a second chance after he flamed out in the nation’s capital in less than two seasons.
