Raiders add seven to COVID- 19 list

-

The Raiders put seven more players on the COVID- 19 list as “high risk” close contacts with teammate Clelin Ferrell after he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Ferrell, a starting defensive end, was put on the list Tuesday following his positive test, along with defensive back Lamarcus Joyner. Safety Johnathan Abram, defensive tackle Maliek Collins, defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, defensive lineman David Irving, cornerback Isaiah Johnson, defensive end Arden Key and defensive tackle Kendal Vickers were added to the list on Wednesday after contact tracing.

If those players all keep testing negative and have no symptoms they will be able play Sunday night against the Chiefs.

† The Browns put starting right tackle Jack Conklin, kicker Cody Parkey, and long snapper Charley Hughlett on the COVID- 19 list. It’s the latest development with the virus for the team, which previously put offensive lineman Chris Hubbard and fullback Andy Janovich on the list and had a staffer test positive for the novel coronavirus last week.

† The Rams put three practice- squad players ( receiver JJ Koski, tight end Kendall Blanton and defensive back Jake Gervase) on the COVID list one day after reporting a positive test for an unidentified player. The Rams didn’t say whether the players all tested positive. The team scrapped its walkthrough practice.

All teams to enter intensive protocol

The NFL is putting all teams in intensive protocol starting Saturday to mitigate the risk of COVID- 19 as the number of cases rises around the country.

Use of masks will be mandatory at all times at team facilities, including during practice and in weight rooms. Meetings must be held either virtually or in the largest indoor space with approval by the league. Meals have to be made available for grab- and- go to avoid players and staff congregating in cafeterias. Time spent in the locker room also has to be limited.

Stafford ‘ day by day’ with thumb injury

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is dealing with an injured right thumb, was noncommittal about whether he would play Sunday against the Panthers.

“I’m just going to take it day by day, see how it heals,” Stafford said. “How it feels throughout the week and go from there.”

Stafford didn’t practice Wednesday, with Chase Daniel and David Blough taking reps in his place.

Giants fire offensive line coach Colombo

The Giants fired offensive line coach Marc Colombo, a first- round draft pick by the Bears in 2002, after getting into a confrontation with head coach Joe Judge. Veteran line coach Dave DeGuglielmo will finish the season running the line.

Judge reportedly wanted to hire DeGuglielmo as a consultant to work with the offensive line and other parts of the team, but Colombo voiced his displeasure with the move.

This and that

The Chiefs signed safety DeAndre Baker, taking a chance on the 2019 first- round pick after he was cut by the Giants amid legal issues.

† Panthers coach Matt Rhule said running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Lions.

† Seahawks running back Chris Carson is unlikely ( foot) to play against the Cardinals on Thursday night.

† Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow says he’s OK to play after hurting his ankle last week against the Steelers.

† The 49ers claimed defensive lineman Takk McKinley off waivers from the Bengals.
