2 firefighters among 3 hurt in Hazel Crest fire
Three people, including two firefighters, were injured in a house fire Sunday morning in south suburban Hazel Crest.
Fire crews responded about 9: 15 a. m. to the blaze in the 17700 block of Stonebridge Drive, according to Hazel Crest Deputy Fire Chief Samuel Hunter.
A mayday call was sent out when two injured firefighters made it out of the home and collapsed, Hunter said. A resident also had to be pulled from the home after suffering smoke inhalation. They were all taken to South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest for treatment, Hunter said. Their conditions weren’t known.
The fire appears to have started in the home’s basement, Hunter said.

Woman found pushing dead body in shopping cart
An elderly woman was found pushing a shopping cart with a dead body in it Saturday evening in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.
Officers responded to a well- being check at 7: 53 p. m. in the 8600 block of South Calumet and found the woman with the body of a female, whose identity and age was unknown, Chicago Police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, police said.

Man shot in head while driving
A man was shot in the head while driving in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The 37- year- old man was shot at 7: 54 p. m. in the 1300 block of North Kildare and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police. A 22- year- old woman who was a passenger was not injured, police said.

Brush fire spreads to junk piles in Harvey
A brush fire spread through junkyard piles, a field and a building Sunday afternoon in south suburban Harvey.
The fire broke out in a brush pile on vacant property about 3: 30 p. m. near 152nd Street and Commercial Avenue, according to the Harvey Fire Department. The fire then spread to a building; no one was in the building, officials said. The fire was put out about 5: 05 p. m. No injuries were reported.

Man shot, boy grazed by bullet
A man and a boy were wounded Sunday evening in a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
The two were walking down the street when they got into a fight with people walking by, and shots were fired at 6: 53 p. m. in the 5400 block of West Gladys Avenue, according to Chicago Police. The man, 20, was shot in the armpit and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A 17- year- old boy was taken to Loretto Hospital for a graze wound to the ankle, police said.

Man critical after Uptown stabbing
One person was being questioned after a man was critically injured in a stabbing Sunday evening in the Uptown neighborhood.
A 41- year- old man was stabbed in the back and leg at 5: 48 p. m. in the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said. Police found a knife at the scene, and detectives were questioning a person of interest, police said.
