Wilson to be in Yankees camp
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will join the Yankees at their springtraining camp on Monday for a week.
The Super Bowl champion quarterback also hinted on Twitter of a home- run challenge with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
Wilson, a four- time Pro Bowl player who played minor- league ball with the Colorado Rockies in 201011, joined the Yankees organization Feb. 7 via a trade from the Rangers.
Wilson isn’t expected to play in any exhibition games according to new manager Aaron Boone, who’s just happy to have him in camp.
Pirates get Dickerson
The Pirates acquired All- Star outfielder Corey Dickerson from the Rays in exchange for pitcher Daniel Hudson, minor- league infielder Tristan Gray and cash considerations.
The 28- year- old Dickerson was designated for assignment last Saturday. He was the AL’s starting DH in last summer’s All- Star Game, but struggled at the plate the second half of the season. The trade lets the Rays shed Dickerson’s $ 5.95 million salary.
Hudson is a 30- year- old right- hander who went 2- 7 with a 4.38 ERA in a careerhigh 71 appearances in 2017. He’s 37- 30 with a 3.98 career ERA over eight seasons with the Pirates, White Sox and Diamondbacks.
Rays’ Honeywell injured
Rays top pitching prospect Brent Honeywell left a live bullpen session with a “right forearm strain,” manager Kevin Cash said.
Honeywell, who is the 14th ranked prospect on Baseball America, will be further evaluated.
Ohtani to make debut
Japanese two- way phenom Shohei Ohtani will make his highly anticipated Cactus League debut on the mound Saturday when the Angels host the Brewers. Ohtani is expected to start and pitch around two innings.
2019 likely to open in Japan
For the first time since 2012, the first pitch of next year’s Major League Baseball schedule will be thrown in Japan.
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting the Athletics and Mariners will open the 2019 season with a series at the Tokyo Dome — as the two teams did six years ago.
The A’s also opened the 2008 season in Japan against the Red Sox.
