Bye pattern: Bearswaive WRMcBride
Two days after he played more than three- quarters of the Bears’ offensive snaps, wide receiver Tre McBride was waived Tuesday.
The Bears, somewhat curiously, did not announce a corresponding move.
McBride, whom the Bears claimed from the Tennessee Titans on the eve of the season, then cut and re- signed, saw his playing time drop after the Bears acquired Dontrelle Inman from the Los Angeles Chargers.
He played 26 snaps the previous two games before seeing a whopping 43 snaps in the Bears’ 31- 3 loss Sunday to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Josh Bellamy missed the game in Philadelphia with a concussion.
In eight games, McBride had eight catches for 144 yards. He did most of his damage in a road game against the New Orleans Saints, catching three passes for 92 yards. The next game, McBride played only seven offensive snaps, in part because Inman was making his Bears debut. Afterward, offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains was asked how McBride could be benched after his best career day.
“Sometimes statistically when you say he played the best game of his career, that may not match with what the coaches see on tape when balls aren’t going your way or how you’re getting separation vs. man coverage or other things,” Loggains said after the game against the Green Bay Packers.
“We thought Bellamy gave us an element of speed that we needed. He’s always been a good blocker. Part of that thought process was we needed to stretch the field, and he’s probably our fastest wide receiver.”
