STRIP MALL FIRE DAMAGES BUSINESSES IN MID LOT HI AN
A blaze tore through a few businesses in southwest suburban Midlothian late Saturday and into Sunday.
Firefighters responded about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a strip mall in the 4000 block of 147th Street, where flames were coming from the east side of the building, Midlothian Fire Department Chief Stephen Hotwagner said. Flames also spread to apartment units behind the building, Hotwagner said.
The fire was under control within a few hours but caused “extensive damage,” authorities said. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation. Sun- TimesWire
Hit- run on I- 80 forces car offroad, into water
A car was shoved off the road and into a pool of water during a hit- and- run crash early Sunday on Interstate 80 in northwest Indiana.
Authorities were called about 3: 50 a. m. to mile marker 8.6 near Gary, Indiana State Police said.
A 42- year- old woman was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier east in the right lane on I- 80 when her vehicle was rear- ended by another vehicle, state police said. The crash caused the woman’s vehicle to spin off the road. The Cavalier rolled several times and came to rest on its top in waist- deep water, state police said.
Gary firefighters got the woman out of the vehicle with the Jaws of Life, police said. She was treated for injuries at a hospital. Sun- TimesWire
Person shot on Tri- State
A person was wounded with non- life- threatening injuries in a shooting Sunday on the Tri- State Tollway in south suburban Alsip.
The male was shot at 2: 32 a. m. in the northbound lanes of I- 294 near 147th, according to Illinois State Police. Tom Schuba
63-year-old woman beaten in home invasion
A 63- year- old woman was beaten by a man who broke into her Austin home Saturday on the West Side.
The man forced his way in when she answered the door between 7: 30 and 8: 30 p. m. in the 5000 block of West Van Buren, according to Chicago Police. He bound her hands and feet and started beating her. The man tried to disrobe the woman, then ran, police said. The woman called 911 from a neighbor’s home. She was taken to a hospital with bruises to her face, police said. Her condition had stabilized. Sun- TimesWire
