Team adjusting to Rose’s return

Coach Tom Thibodeau anticipated some rough spots with Derrick Rose returning to the mix after missing last season while recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. But he said Sunday a veteran core has made it much easier.

‘‘There’s an adjustment,’’ Thibodeau said. ‘‘[Rose has] been around, and the core of the team has played with him before, so that’s a big plus. But you have to re-establish your chemistry. We start from a zero base from last year and build from there. But the fact that these guys have been together for a while has been a plus.

‘‘It allows you to move along much quicker because we’ve been through it. We’ve added a few things here and there, but the foundation, they have a pretty good feeling of.’’

Rose was once again at full throttle on the second day of camp. In his mind, the knee is a non-issue.

‘‘I feel back,’’ Rose said. ‘‘I’m not worried about anything. I’m reacting when I’m out there. I’m just trying to win every scrimmage and just trying to push everybody to be better.’’

It’s easier when there is a group around him that already has that drive.

‘‘You can just see the potential, especially because of having someone like Derrick back,’’ newcomer Mike Dunleavy Jr. said.

Praising the staff

A lot was made of former assistant Ron Adams not having his contract picked up and joining the Boston Celtics this offseason. But Thibodeau said the staff has picked up the slack without Adams, and it’s not a topic he wanted to dwell on any longer.

‘‘I’m not going to rehash that other than saying Ron is a great friend, a great coach, and I was obviously pleased he was able to land in Boston,’’ Thibodeau said. ‘‘I have a great staff. Adrian [ Griffin], Andy [ Greer], Eddie [ Pinckney], Mike Wilhelm . . . to me, they’re all great teachers and coaches.’’
