Cardinals complete sweep of Brewers

Jaime Garcia (4-1) allowed one run and eight hits in eight innings, and Allen Craig drove in four runs to power the visiting St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-1 rout Sunday of the Milwaukee Brewers. The victory gave the Cardinals a sweep of the four-game series and extended their winning streak to six.

Matt Holliday added a home run and three RBI for the Cardinals, who took control of the game early by scoring six runs in the second. A three-run double by Craig was the big blow in the inning.

Losing pitcher Marco Estrada (2-2) was roughed up for eight runs, six hits and five walks in 3⅓ innings as the Brewers lost their fifth consecutiv­e game.

Phils’ Halladay ailing

Adeiny Hechevarri­a drove in seven runs with a grand slam and a three-run triple, Justin Ruggiano homered twice and Kevin Slowey (1-2) pitched seven scoreless innings to earn his first majorleagu­e victory since Sept. 18, 2010, as the Miami Marlins rang up a season high in runs in a 14-2 annihilati­on of the host Philadelph­ia Phillies.

Losing pitcher Roy Halladay (2-4) was pounded for nine runs in 2⅓ innings and saw his ERA rise to 8.65. After the game, he said he has a sore right shoulder and will undergo tests this week in Los Angeles.

Justin Verlander (4-2) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before yielding a oneout single to Carlos Peña and finished with nine strikeouts in seven innings, and Prince Fielder hit one of the visiting Detroit Tigers’ four homers and drove in four runs in a 9-0 victory against the Houston Astros. The Tigers swept the four-game series by a combined score of 37-8.

Adrian Beltre singled home Elvis Andrus with two outs in the ninth inning to boost the host Texas Rangers past the Boston Red Sox 4-3 for a sweep of the threegame series. Rangers starter Yu Darvish got a no-decision but struck out a career-hightying 14 in seven innings.

Tyler Moore hit a threerun homer, Danny Espinosa homered and drove in three runs and the visiting Washington Nationals overcame the ejection of Bryce Harper for arguing a checked-swing third strike in the first inning to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2.
