NO SHORTAGE OF SARCASTIC IDEAS
The Cubs are asking fans to design a logo celebrating the 100th birthday of Wrigley Field in 2014, which means the Cubs are asking for abuse.
Given that they haven’t won a World Series since woolly mammoths roamed the earth and that Wrigley hasn’t exactly been the epicenter of pleasant memories, I suggested various designs involving billy goats, trough urinals, Alex Gonzalez errors and ‘‘L’’ flags fluttering in center field after losses.
I asked readers to get into the spirit of things. Most of you did. Here are some of your logo proposals:
• ‘‘A picture of Wrigley with the saying, ‘Wrigley Field lasted longer than Alcatraz, and the punishment was far worse.’ ’’ — Bob • ‘‘A photo of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse using facial shots of Harry Chiti, Gary Scott, Mel Rojas and Koyie Hill.’’ — ImAHawkeye
• ‘‘I see a 100-year-old Stuart Smalley wearing a long, gray beard and a Sammy Sosa jersey, sitting in front of the mirror and saying, ‘I’m good enough . . . ’ ’’ — Francis
• ‘‘Your article demeans a capitalist entity that pays a huge portion of Chicago taxes, much more than the White Sox, who didn’t put up their own money to build their park, nor even own it. As for winning and losing, the Cubs and Sox had the same woes except for 2005, so let’s not make the Sox sound like a dynasty, for Pete’s sake. You’re better than this article.
