DuSable Lake Shore Drive briefly blocked by protesters calling for ceasefire in Gaza

Protesters calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on Saturday briefly blocked traffic on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Around 3 p.m., about 3,000 protesters gathered in the 300 block of South Columbus Drive before some continued onto DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said.

Demonstrat­ors locked arms and blocked off traffic in both directions while chanting “Whose street? Our street,” video posted by the United States Palestinia­n Community Network showed.

The demonstrat­ion marched about one block north, reaching Jackson Street before dispersing, police said.

Both lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive were back open as of Saturday evening, according to the Office of Emergency Management and Communicat­ions.

No arrests or citations were reported.

1 killed, 1 critically wounded in Roseland shooting

A man was killed and another critically wounded in a shooting late Friday in Roseland on the Far South Side.

About 10:35 p.m., two men, 26 and 37, were found shot in the first block of East 110th Street, Chicago police said.

The younger man was shot in the torso and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The older man was shot in the neck and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was in critical condition, police said.

No one was in custody.

Man shot during armed robbery in Gage Park

A man was shot during an armed robbery attempt early Saturday in Gage Park.

About 12:30 a.m., a 39-year-old man was approached by a gunman who demanded the man’s phone in the 2500 block of West 56th Street, Chicago police said.

A fight began and the man was shot in the leg, police said.

He was found inside a parked car and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical

Center where he was in fair condition, officials said.

No one was in custody.

Woman dies in Douglas apartment fire

A woman died in an apartment fire Friday afternoon in Douglas on the South Side.

About 12:40 p.m., officers received a call of an arson at an apartment in the 2900 block of South State Street, Chicago police said.

Joyce Smith, 75, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

It was unclear what started the fire. No one was reported in custody.

Driver dies after crashing into West Lawn building

A driver died after he struck a building Friday in West Lawn on the Southwest Side.

The driver, a man believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, struck the building just before 11 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Pulaski Road, Chicago police said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died, police said.
