QB Watson gets huge extension

-

Deshaun Watson agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Texans. The deal makes Watson the second-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL behind the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, who signed a 10-year deal worth up to $503 million in July. The Texans traded up to take Watson with the 12th pick in the 2017 draft, in which the Bears traded up to take Mitch Trubisky second. Bills cornerback Tre’ Davious White will become the highest-paid player at his position when his four-year, $70 million extension, which includes $55 million guaranteed, takes effect. The total value of the deal, which runs through the 2025 season, is $82.1 million.

Keenan Allen reportedly signed a four-year extension with the Chargers that will make him the league’s second-highest-paid receiver in average money. The deal is worth $80.1 million with $50 million guaranteed.

Among the quarterbacks released around the league were former Bears Mike Glennon of the Jaguars and David Fales of the Jets. Also cut were the Lions’ David Blough, who lost all five of his starts subbing for the injured Matthew Stafford last season, and Paxton Lynch of the Steelers.

Quarterback Alex Smith made Washington’s roster, another significant step in his remarkable comeback from a broken right leg 22 months ago. Coach Ron Rivera said there’s no plan to put Smith on injured reserve in the coming days.

Free-agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney reportedly will sign with the Titans, reuniting with coach Mike Vrabel, who was Clowney’s position coach and coordinator with the Texans.

The Falcons cut wide receiver Laquon

Treadwell, a former first-round pick who was the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year in 2012 at Crete-Monee High School.
