Johann K. Hendon, 90, of East Brainerd, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022. Born and raised in Lineville, Alabama, she moved to Chattanoog­a after her husband, James Hardy, returned home from the Korean War and he began working at Dupont. Johann and Hardy were high school sweetheart­s and married at the tender age of 18. Johann had been offered a job with the FBI in Washington, D.C., but she chose to be a wife to her one and only true love. Johann and Hardy were married for 49 years until Hardy passed away after an extended illness in 2000.

Johann was a member of Concord Baptist Church where she often filled in as the organist; she was an accomplish­ed pianist as well.

Johann was preceded in death by her husband, James Hardy Hendon, in 2000; brother Billy C. King and his wife, Jo; brother and sister-inlaw Alton and George Hendon; parents Sam and Willie King; and her beloved grandson, Jordan Wilson, who passed in 2021. Her faithful schnauzer companions, “Lordee He’s Lucky” and “Sir Scruffy Whiskas,” also preceded her in death.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Wesley Wilson of Chattanoog­a; son James Brian Hendon and his wife, Terri (Ringgold, GA); sister Jean Ingram and her husband, Robert (Delta, AL); and sister Jane Butts and her husband, Jamie (Burlson, TX). Johann is also survived by three grandchild­ren: Jameson C. Wilson of Las Vegas, NV, Melissa Seaborn and her husband, Justin (Ringgold), and Brittany Hendon (Dalton), plus three great-grandchild­ren, Bella and Ava Wilbanks and Atlas James Seaborn, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearer­s will be Brian Hendon, Wesley Wilson, Jameson Wilson, Justin Seaborn, Stanley Hendon, and Ted Broyles.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16, from 11:00 a.m. until 12

p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7545 E. Brainerd Road. Graveside services are to be held at 12:30 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Jonathan Parker officiatin­g.

The family would like to thank Martin Boyd Christian Home for their love and care shown to Johann during the last year. Special thanks to the level one west side nurses and aides at Martin Boyd, as well as Hearth Hospice, who were so kind during her final days.
