Davies notches first win

Patriots top Hope High Saturday for program’s first win

-

PROVIDENCE – Head coach Henry Cabral has big plans for the football – a football that signifies a significant milestone in the twoyear history of the Davies Tech program.

The Patriots are officially in the win column following Saturday night’s 16-0 victory over Division IV rival Hope in a game that took place at Classical High School.

“Very happy for the boys,” said Cabral.

After posting a winless mark during its inaugural 2019 season (0-7 in league play) along with dropping the 2021 “Fall II” season opener, Davies finally broke through behind a defensive unit that was paced by sophomore Antonio Cabral (two interceptions), junior Matt Patenaude (12 tackles), and junior Anthony Silva (10 tackles).

“Defensively, we played well when we needed to,” said Coach Cabral, noting that Hope only threatened once during the entire game.

Offensively, the Patriots (11, 1-0 Division IV) received two first-half touchdown passes from Antonio Cabral, who’s also the starting QB. Both scores landed in the arms of Patenaude and covered 12 and 45 yards, respectively. Cabral also ran in the two conversions that helped Davies reach 16 points.

Cabral finished 8-of-10 for 126 yards while Patenaude hauled in seven receptions for 117 yards.

As for the game ball, Coach Cabral noted he’s going to have the players sign it before displaying it in a case at school.

“We’re going to hold on to that one,” said Cabral.

Next up for the Patriots is a Saturday noontime game at Cranston Stadium against Toll Gate.
