1956 Mike Thomsen scattered 10 hits, allowed one earned

run, left 10 runners stranded, fanned seven, walked three and belted a solo homer as the Pawtucket All-Stars notched another crown by defeating Massachusetts champion Weymouth-South 6-2 for the Atlantic Regional championship and now advance to the Eastern Regional Little League Tournament in Cherry Hills, N. J. Steve Reynolds, the starting pitcher for the Eastern tourney opening tilt, took hitting honors with a two-run homer, two singles, three RBI and two runs scored. Defensively, shortstop Al Lantagne and Reynolds, who played first base, came through with brilliant fielding plays in Thomsen’s behalf. 1966 Barbara Marceau had to work overtime to capture the

women’s club championship at the Pawtucket Country Club. Marceau and Pat Dooley, a pair of past champions, dueled 22 holes before Marceau claimed the victory in the title match. In the supplemental flights, Bud McDermott defeated Martha Brown, 2 and 1, in the First Flight final, while Sue Boghossian topped Judy Lefebvre, 3 and 2, in the Second Flight showdown. Dot Whiteley was the medalist in qualifying for the Championship Division.

1976 Derek Dion singled, doubled and homered and

Adam Pernini belted a monstrous 390-foot, three-run round-tripper as the Cumberland All-Stars knocked off Sarasota, Fla. 6-3 in the first round of the Babe Ruth World Series in Lebanon, Mo. Dion, a righty, allowed just two hits, one earned run, fanned three and walked three in five innings, while Justin Dubois hurled the final two innings for the save. “We were as cool as ice on defense,” stated head coach Bill Kitsilis. “And the team, as a whole was relaxed. In fact, the players were more relaxed than the coaches.”
